Words from our Past Fellows
Curious as to what your experience may be like as a Fellow as 17 Asset Management? Hear from some of our past fellows.
This summer, I spent time working with the CEO and other key personnel to overhaul the firm’s marketing collateral by determining key selling points for the firm and effectively communicating these points in a variety of deliverables. I also spent the last part of the summer assisting in an effort to develop an Advisory function at the firm. I really enjoyed that amid the beautiful chaos of a startup environment, I was able to work on truly impactful project while being given the space to control my own destiny and determine what work I thought could add value and ultimately be helpful to the firm’s long-term prospects.
What attracted me to 17AM is the unique model with which the company operates. 17AM gave me an unparalleled opportunity to be exposed to and learn about the intersection between development and business, and become well-versed on topics of finance and business. My experience at 17AM not only exposed me to impact investment space, but also honed my research and analytical skills. The problem-solving skills I gained were invaluable and will be a great asset in all my future endeavors.
I chose to work with 17 Asset Management this summer for people, passion, and purpose that defines the company. As a smaller team and new startup in the financial services sector, 17AM has offered me the chance to engage in exciting and meaningful projects through market research, product design, investment strategy, and impact measurement & management.
As a post-MBA graduate, I was excited to delve into a myriad of impactful projects in a summer with 17AM. Working with 17AM challenged me to consider social impact as an equal measure of an investment’s success to financial return, and in doing so, I learned about the powerful capability of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework and tool for asset management.
Over the summer, I spent almost two months helping 17 Asset Management’s team flesh out their capital formation plans, primarily working under the Director of Operations, Holly Garrett. With the company still at its earlier stages, I helped kick off various investor relations initiatives, using platforms such as Pitchbook to conduct research on investments in various geographic regions and industries. Being part of an initiative that contributes to the social and economic development of Jordan was very rewarding, and feeling that I am part of that process made it all the more enjoyable.
